Best gift to your child
Posted by wisdomtree on September 17, 2007
It’s been a long time since I blogged in my own personal (blog) space. It not that I don’t have anything to write. In fact, there are exciting things happening. But I just logged on to write about a “best parent practice” that got me excited ever since I heard it. A friend of mine ( working at a senior position) took a day off for his son’s birthday. WOW! This is perhaps the best gift a child can receive: To know that he matters more than anything else. This is not tokenism. It is costly. It costs but it lets your child know that home is a place where he can find sacrificial love. May be the child is too young to know all this but it does matter. When the kid knows this it would make a big difference. What I liked about this is that you can work the whole year to make this day free… to do something memorable… to preserve the memory of the day… well… I like the idea. It’s great… I have decided to keep March 29th free every year… to be available for my daughter vandana… it is a big claim since I am always on the move….that’s what makes it even more worthwhile… I can almost hear my wife tell me, “What about me?”. Well… it isn’t wrong to take a day off for her… I have already started blocking these two days in the 2008 calendar. God! give me the wisdom and the courage to say “NO” to workalcoholism on these two days…..
